Ok, a little off topic for the tone we've set here at this blog, but what the heck, I did say it would cover 'whatever was going on in my head'.
Anyway, Dave of "the middle winger" sent me this link, which surprised me as a very cool read! I'm not a HUGE CRAZY Star Wars MANIAC FANBOY, however I did fully enjoy all of the movies (the original ones moreso, but whatever), and this short little essay is pretty interesting.
Basically, it takes the events of the three most recent films (Episodes 1, 2 and 3) and uses them to re-examine the events of the original films (Eps. 4, 5 and 6) - and draws some VERY interesting conclusions.
Anyway, check it out for yourself. You'll never look at Chewie or R2 the same way again!

The only flaw in the analysis is the fact that it uses George Lucas's Ep. 1-3 as analysis of what really happened. IMHO Lucas screwed everything up, not only by creating a convoluted story with plot holes up the wah-zoo, but also by disregarding an amazing rich history created by other authors of the Star Wars universe, which I now understand he only ever saw as an "alternat universe". It's a real shame, because I read the Han Solo trilogy, telling the story of Han up until Ep. 4, and what an amazing adventure. If Mr. Lucas did indeed consider Chewbacca to be of such high importance to make such a connection as Rebellion spy, then he once again shits on years of Star Wars history created by some of his most impassioned and creative of fans, that he himself gave the go ahead to create a-formentioned history. I know, I know, it's his right, and this happens all the time in the creation of fantasy universe's, but in my opinion Mr. Lucas has proven himself time and time again to be a brilliant idea man and organizer of people, but when it comes to application, when he's the only one in control, everything goes to hell. His best creative projects have been collaborations, and he should have realized when he was creating Ep. 1-3, that he not only should have teamed up with another great director (or handed controls over them), but also to really reflect on what the fans know of the Star Wars universe beyond the movies, because, well... whatever... I need to stop wasting time and get back to work.

totally agree with you about Lucas, when he takes control of everything, it turns into teh suck, but when he coordinates motivated and creative people around his ideas, the real magic happens
