Further to the below post.....
I've made a decision, and I couldn't be happier. After 20 years of waiting to buy 'the right strat', and hoping to find it when the time was right, i've found it. And it's not made by Fender (at least, not the Fender company.....). It's a G&L (Leo Fender) and it's everything I've always wanted, and lots more. I couldn't be happier.
If you think you are looking for a USA Strat, take a good hard look at G&L. I think you would have to drop a couple thousand on a pimped out Fender Custom Shop Strat to get what the G&L Legacy offers at a fraction of the price. I'm amazed.

I know it's vane, but I love the head stock of Fender strat's so much, and I'm a cheap (but picky) kinda person so my axe will always be the late 90's MIM Stratocaster. Holds up to the best abuse, sounds amazing, ages well. Once again I know it's vane, but I can't get past the head stocks on G&L strats, even though one part of me feels really bad about Leo's name being used for another company. No, I take that back, the music manufacturing biz is rife with that kind of thing, so I'm used to it. Fuck, it's BUILT on that kind of thing. :') Anyhow, kewl strat. Love me some strat!!
do you mean that Fender shouldn't be using Leo's name (i'm sure CBS paid him well for it when they bought the company), or G&L shouldn't? G&L was Leo's company untill he passed on....
I agree about the headstock, and it was the last thing that held me back from buying this awesome guitar.... i eventually went for it, because it seemed crazy to spend more money on a lesser guitar, just for the 'name' and a very small cosmetic difference
and... for one, i've kinda grown used to the headstock, and don't mind it anymore...perhaps falling in love with how this axe plays helped that
for two, when you are holding the guitar and playing, the way the angles work, you don't see the odd little 'point' on the headstock. from a playing angle, the headstock looks EXACTLY like the one on a strat. I'm sure this was done on purpose!
